Several Western Cape sailors made their mark in the prestigious Lipton Cup, with the Tin Tin team securing second place in a fiercely competitive event. Tin Tin is owned and skippered by Diannae Hutton Squire, a former Overberg District Sport Council Awards winner, whose leadership played a key role in the team’s success. Chris Kindle and Morgan Teed were also key members of the team, contributing to their impressive performance. Despite tough competition from the Nitro team, Tin Tin demonstrated excellent teamwork and sailing expertise, earning a well-deserved second-place finish.

The success of Tin Tin was the result of dedicated practice and preparation. Under Hutton Squire’s guidance, the team committed to rigorous training, braving cold weekends to ensure the boat was race-ready. Their specialized roles on board and strong coordination allowed them to stand out in the competition.

Beyond the Lipton Cup, Western Cape’s sailing achievements continue with seven young sailors preparing to represent South Africa in the upcoming African Championships in the Seychelles. These young sailors, including two girls aged 15, have been training intensely through winter, positioning themselves as strong contenders in the international competition.

The Western Cape sailing community continues to fly the flag proudly, with both senior and junior sailors making significant strides locally and internationally.
