The Western Cape Provincial Sport Confederation (WCPSC) recently held a General Council Meeting, with more than 40 Provincial Sporting Federations and representatives from various District Sport Councils (DSCs) in attendance.
The meeting, chaired by WCPSC President Mr JP Naude, covered several topics, including transformation, safeguarding, administration and compliance within provincial sport.
A highlight of the meeting was the attendance of Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Ricardo Mackenzie, proudly decked out in the official WCPSC Provincial Colours tracksuit. The Minister addressed members during the meeting, after which he joined the Provincial Sporting Federations for a photo opportunity.
In addition to the various topics discussed, the WCPSC again highlighted the Transformation Scorecard process and the importance of federations keeping the required information up to date. The scorecard is based on the National Sports Transformation Charter and requires Federations to input their targets and achievements annually.
Federations were reminded of the importance of ensuring that their safeguarding policies are not simply documents that exist on paper, but are actively implemented at ground level within their sporting structures. To assist with this, the WCPSC will be deploying safeguarding awareness print material to Federations for rollout at club level. This will complement the current online Safeguarding Awareness Certificate, which has now recorded in excess of 20,000 completions.
Federations were also reminded of the importance of keeping their information on the WCPSC Admin Portal up to date. The portal will continue to scale to provide additional customized Federation membership support which would now include membership management and digital members card solutions. Maintaining current federation information and documentation assists with the administration of sport and ensures that the WCPSC has accurate information for its member structures which allows for Federation support and online compliance management.
A number of other administrative and compliance matters were covered, including the process and requirements for applications for Provincial Colours. The members were again remined of the requirement to apply for colours when participating at any national event. To date the WCPSC has delivered in excess of two thousand athletes dressed in the official provincial colours across multiple sport codes.
The attendance of more than 40 Provincial Sporting Federations together with representatives from various DSCs, reflected a strong turnout from across the Western Cape sporting community. The WCPSC now has in excess of fifty official members as inline with the SASCOC national membership which currently sits as 78.
Mr Naude thanked Minister Mackenzie for attending the meeting, as well as the Provincial Sporting Federations and DSC representatives for their attendance and participation. He also highlighted the strong relationship between the WCPSC and the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport.
Several other topics were discussed during the meeting, including Provincial Colours, academies, sports employment and projects focusing on areas such as mental health.
