Job Purpose

The Western Cape Provincial Sport Confederation (WCPSC), in partnership with the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS), is seeking to employ a suitably qualified individual as a Coach: Recreational Sport to coach school-going youth as well as other relevant communities at a Recreation Centre, whilst promoting after-school, mass participation, competitive and next-level activities.

Salary / Stipend: R3 187.00 per month
Closing date: 24 June 2026

Minimum Requirements

  • Qualification relevant to the Key Performance Areas, or a minimum of 2 years’ appropriate operational experience relevant to the position.

Key Performance Areas

  • Manage the Recreation Centre for 30 hours per week, approximately 6 hours per day, between 09h00 and 18h00.
  • Coach community members from early childhood phase through to senior citizen phase.
  • Coordinate centre activities.
  • Promote and market the Recreation Centre within the community.
  • Promote and foster the vision, mission, aims and purpose of the centre.
  • Attend relevant coaching courses and clinics.
  • Take responsibility for talent identification at the Recreation Centre.
  • Accompany learners and athletes to activities and events.
  • Control access to the Recreation Centre and manage all Centre assets.
  • Capture data and statistics, maintain records and assist with research and policy development.
  • Assist with education, training, development, monitoring and evaluation activities.
  • Take responsibility for Recreation Centre administration and reporting.
  • Account and report to the relevant DCAS Area Manager or Recreation Sport Promotion Officer.
  • Establish Indigenous Games Clubs at the Centre.
  • Support and assist established clubs with promoting leagues.
  • Adhere to and execute Recreation Centre operational requirements.
  • Ensure active participation at the Recreation Centre reaches a minimum of 1 000 participants annually.
  • Ensure coaching performance meets the minimum ratio of 40:1 per coach and per session.

Competencies

  • Knowledge of Indigenous Games, Golden Games, ECD, Recreation Development and Growth of the Recreation Programme.
  • Ability to lead and work effectively within a team environment.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape.
  • Computer literacy in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Internet applications.
  • Excellent report writing skills.
  • Good organisational and planning skills.
