Assistant MOD Programme Officer – Beaufort West: Central Karoo
About the Position
The Western Cape Provincial Sport Confederation (WCPSC), in partnership with the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS), is seeking to employ a suitably qualified individual as an Assistant MOD Programme Officer to manage MOD Centres and staff whilst promoting after-school mass participation, competitive and next-level participation through recreation, sport, arts and cultural activities.
This position forms part of the Mass Participation, Opportunity and Access, Development and Growth (MOD) Programme, School Sport Programme and Neighbourhood School Programme and is based in Vredenburg, serving the West Coast District.
The successful candidate will play a leadership role in coordinating programme delivery, supporting staff, ensuring compliance and creating opportunities for community participation across the district.
Minimum Requirements
- Senior Certificate (Grade 12).
- A minimum of five (5) years appropriate operational experience relevant to the position.
- Valid Code B Driver’s Licence.
Key Performance Areas
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Providing access to recreation, sport, arts and cultural activities.
- Working a minimum of forty (40) hours per week, including weekends when operationally required.
- Managing the functionality of MOD Programmes and allocated resources.
- Leading, managing and mentoring district staff.
- Managing the implementation of MOD Programme activities.
- Linking MOD activities with Recreation, School Sport and Neighbourhood School Programmes.
- Managing and ensuring programme compliance.
- Collecting, compiling and collating district statistical data.
- Managing and coordinating district MOD Centres.
- Managing district awareness and activity schedules.
- Coordinating district holiday programme activities.
- Promoting and supporting next-level participation opportunities.
- Promoting alignment with club participation pathways.
- Drafting, compiling and submitting reports.
- Performing district administrative and HR-related duties.
- Facilitating and implementing recruitment processes.
- Assisting with research and policy development.
Knowledge, Skills and Competencies
- Knowledge and experience of the MOD Programme and related participation programmes.
- Good understanding of recreation-based activities, school sport and neighbourhood school programmes.
- Knowledge of sport, arts and cultural participation pathways.
- Ability to lead and manage staff effectively.
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape.
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Internet applications.
- Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
- Strong planning, organisational and administrative abilities.
What You’ll Be Doing
As an Assistant MOD Programme Officer, you will oversee the delivery of MOD Programme activities across the district, ensuring that centres operate effectively and that participants have access to quality recreation, sport, arts and cultural opportunities.
You will provide leadership and support to staff, coordinate district activities, manage reporting and compliance requirements and assist in building pathways that allow participants to progress into clubs, federations and higher levels of participation.
This role is suited to an experienced and motivated individual who is passionate about community development, programme management and creating opportunities for young people through sport and recreation.
