SASSCo Western Cape to Oversee Historic Black Powder Provincial Championships

In a historic first for the Western Cape, the WP Black Powder Association will host an interprovincial black powder shotgun match during the annual Black Powder Provincial Championships, with SASSCo Western Cape overseeing the event. The championships, set to begin in two weeks, are expected to draw attention from enthusiasts and competitors alike as it marks the inaugural Black Powder provincial shotgun event in the region.

The championship kicks off on 2 November 2024 at the Durbanville Shooting Club, where the first-ever Black Powder shotgun event in the Western Cape will take place. Following this, the mid-range rifle competitions, covering distances of 300m, 500m, and 600m, will be held on 7 November 2024 at the Good Hope Military Shooting Range in Atlantis.

The excitement continues on 8 and 9 November 2024, also at the Atlantis range, with the 25m handgun, 50m rifle, and 100m rifle events. These competitions will feature a variety of historic firearms, including muzzle loader single shot percussion and flintlock pistols, revolvers, as well as percussion muzzle loader rifles, flintlock muzzle loader rifles, and Black Powder breechloader rifles. In addition, competitors will have the chance to use historic .303 rifles, adding a touch of history to the modern competitive scene.

With a range of disciplines and firearm categories on display, the championships are sure to highlight the precision and skill required in Black Powder shooting. This event offers a unique opportunity to celebrate the legacy of these traditional firearms and witness their continued relevance in the competitive arena.
