Assistant Coach – MOD

Job Purpose

The Western Cape Provincial Sport Confederation (WCPSC), in collaboration with the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, is seeking to employ a suitably qualified individual as an Assistant Coach: Recreational Arts and Culture to coach school-going learners at a MOD Centre, whilst promoting after-school, mass participation, competitive and next-level activities.

This is achieved through the Mass Participation, Opportunity and Access, Development and Growth (MOD) Programme, School Sport Programme and Neighbourhood School Programme within the Western Cape Province. The successful candidate will be stationed at an identified school within an advertised area.

Salary / Stipend: R2 958.00 per month
Closing date: 19 February 2026

Minimum Requirements

  • Qualification relevant to the Key Performance Areas, or a minimum of 1 year’s appropriate operational experience in arts and culture relevant to the position.

Key Performance Areas

  • Promote and foster the vision, mission, aims and purpose of the MOD Programme through awareness programmes.
  • Plan and coordinate MOD Centre activities for various age groups for a period of 25 hours per week.
  • Implement structured lesson plans daily.
  • Nurture, develop and progressively enhance learner skills.
  • Initiate and promote the talent identification process at the MOD Centre.
  • Record data and statistics, maintain records and assist with research and policy development.
  • Record assets received by the MOD Centre.
  • Submit MOD Centre administrative reports.
  • Account and report to the relevant MOD Centre Coach or Manager.

Competencies

  • Knowledge of the Mass Participation, Opportunity and Access, Development and Growth (MOD) Programme.
  • Good understanding of recreation-based activities, School Sport and Neighbourhood School activities and relevant next-level participation opportunities in arts and culture.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape.
  • Computer literacy in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Internet applications.
  • Excellent report writing skills.
  • Good organisational and planning skills.
