Western Cape Karate honours excellence at annual awards

The Western Cape Karate community came together this past Saturday for a vibrant awards ceremony at the Brackenfell Civic Centre, celebrating a standout year of achievement for athletes and coaches across the province. The hall was filled with families, supporters, technical officials, and federation members, creating an energetic atmosphere befitting the occasion.

One of the evening’s biggest moments was the warm tribute paid to outgoing President John Daniels, who received loud applause and heartfelt appreciation for his years of dedicated service. His leadership and steady hand have shaped the federation’s growth, and the crowd’s response reflected the respect he has earned throughout his tenure.

The awards recognised athletes and coaches who have flown the Western Cape flag proudly throughout the year. Several honourees represented South Africa at major events, including the South African Championships, as well as continental competitions in Egypt and Angola, where they tested themselves against some of the toughest opponents on the continent. Their commitment, discipline, and performances have continued to elevate the province’s competitive standing.

Beyond the medals, the evening celebrated the collective effort that drives karate in the Western Cape – from grassroots development to elite preparation. Coaches, clubs, administrators, and volunteers were acknowledged for their role in building strong pathways and supporting athletes on and off the mat.

The ceremony closed with a sense of pride and excitement for the year ahead, as the federation looks to build on its recent successes while continuing to nurture emerging talent. The Western Cape Karate family walked out of the Brackenfell Civic Centre inspired and united after a memorable evening of celebration.
