WCDCAS & WCPSC host provincial funding stream meeting

This week marked another step forward in the partnership between the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) and the Western Cape Provincial Sport Confederation (WCPSC). An online funding-stream workshop was hosted with DCAS and the provincial federations, drawing more than 60 attendees from across the province.

Representatives from Sport Promotion and Sport Development also joined the session, allowing for a full overview of the major event funding process, athlete-travel funding, and bespoke project funding opportunities available to federations. A strong focus was placed on accountability, good governance, and the responsibility that comes with managing public funds.

The Department’s Major Events Funding Portal was unpacked, and further clarity was given around the various dynamics of school sport – a space driven through the WCPSC and supported by more than 600 coaches deployed at over 350 schools across the Western Cape. These coaches form part of the after-school MOD Centre Programme, aimed at strengthening sport participation and development at community level.

Additional guidance was provided on the upcoming tri-laterals, which will give provincial federations a clearer view of how funds flow to district federations. The WCPSC also reminded members of the key non-negotiables required for funding clearance: completing the Transformation Scorecard, appointing certified Transformation Monitoring Officers, and ensuring that all safeguarding policy requirements are in place.

The workshop underscored the continued growth of the WCPSC and its provincial members, all forming part of SASCOC-affiliated national federation structures.
