Western Cape Climbing delivered a commanding performance as the South Africa National Climbing Federation’s National Championships were hosted in the province from 12 to 14 September 2025 at CityRock and Bloc11. The event attracted top athletes from across the country, and the Western Cape once again set the standard in both Boulder and Lead disciplines.

Across the two formats, Western Cape athletes secured 7 of the 8 National Titles, a result that highlights the depth of talent and the strength of the development structures driving the sport in the province.
In Bouldering, Western Cape Climbing took 65 percent of all medals on offer, earning 11 of the 16 gold medals and claiming 3 of the 4 National Champion titles. The results reflected exceptional performance across youth, junior and senior divisions.
In Lead Climbing, the province continued its dominance by winning 53 percent of all medals, securing 11 of the 15 gold medals and earning all 4 National Champion titles. The clean sweep in Lead underlined the consistency and competitive edge of Western Cape athletes.
These achievements stand as a clear reflection of the hard work being done within Western Cape Climbing, both on the athlete pathway and through the dedicated coaching and support systems that continue to elevate the sport in the province.

“Hosting the National Championships and witnessing our athletes perform at this level is incredibly rewarding,” said Western Cape Climbing President Rolf Fitchen. “These results are a testimony to the commitment of our athletes, the expertise of our coaches and the strong development programmes in our region. We are excited about the future of climbing in the Western Cape.”
