South African archers from the Western Cape delivered outstanding performances at the IFAA World Indoor Field Archery Championships in Argentina this November, returning with medals, world records and strong international showings that reflect the hard work and steady development taking place within Western Cape Archery.
In the Veteran Female Traditional Recurve division, Elna Pieterse produced a remarkable performance, winning gold and breaking two world records. Her achievement stands out as one of the highlights of the tournament and showcases the level of excellence emerging from the province.
Marie-Louise Vermeulen, competing in the Adult Female Freestyle Unlimited (AFFU) division, claimed a well-deserved silver medal, demonstrating consistency and control in a highly competitive field.



Young archer Layla Viljoen represented the Western Cape in the Junior Female Freestyle Recurve category, delivering a confident performance and gaining valuable international experience as she continues to grow in the sport.
In the Adult Male Freestyle Recurve (AMFS(R)) division, Davel Viljoen delivered an exceptional campaign, earning both a silver and a gold medal, underscoring the depth of talent being nurtured within the province.
Completing the medal tally, Monica de Jager secured gold in the Adult Female Freestyle Recurve (AFFS(R)) division with a strong and composed performance.
These results stand as a powerful testimony to the commitment, coaching and development work being done by Western Cape Archery. The athletes’ success on the world stage reflects not only their individual dedication but also the strength of the support structures guiding their progress.
