
The 43rd Freda Barnard Club Gala, organized by Fish Eagle Aquatics, was a resounding success, held from 17-20 October 2024 in Oudtshoorn. The event took place at an outdoor facility with a 50m pool, 8 lanes, and touch pads at one end, creating an ideal environment for competitive swimming. Over 430 swimmers from the Eastern Cape and Western Cape participated, delivering outstanding performances.
This sanctioned gala featured six sessions of swimming, offering a platform for some of the region’s top swimming talent to compete. The event showcased fierce competition across all age groups, reinforcing its reputation as a premier regional meet. The smooth organization by Fish Eagle Aquatics made this gala a highlight of the season, honoring Freda Barnard’s legacy and contributing to the growth of South African swimming.


The event also provided a valuable opportunity for younger swimmers to gain experience in a highly competitive setting, while seasoned athletes pushed for personal bests and podium finishes. With a supportive atmosphere and strong camaraderie among the teams, the gala not only highlighted individual performances but also promoted the development of swimming in the region.
