The Western Cape Provincial Sport Confederation recently hosted their annual sport leadership workshop at the Sport Science Institute at Newlands in Cape Town.
The leadership workshop saw over sixty provincial sport federation leaders, including Presidents, Vice Presidents, and other members of their executive committees, in attendance. The session, designed to deliver leadership conversion with a strategic focus, covered topics such as strategic decision making, developing sport strategy, high performance, data analysis, and revenue generation.
The tail end of the session provided an opportunity for the Federations to construct a sponsorship proposal, with members creating their own price matrix. Proposal writing and sponsorship costing have generally been some of the biggest stumbling blocks for federations and clubs, as sponsorship and costing can be a daunting task. With this identified as a current problem for federation revenue generation, the WCPSC explained the basics of creating a value proposition with an immediate sellable solution.
Many Federations currently do not have sellable solutions that could trigger sponsorship, but by the end of the session, the delegates had constructed a hypothetical basket of items worth over R500,000, which is then sellable to sponsors as a value proposition. This ROI is primarily constructed from the various platforms the WCPSC has created as a sellable solution, including co-branding, TV, social media, and other electronic media. Add to this federation event activations, team branding and merchandise there is no doubt federations can in fact have viable propositions for local investors and partners.
Federations in attendance will now receive a ready-made proposal template, which they can take to market to potentially bolster their organization funding. The Western Cape Provincial Sport Confederation has committed to helping the delegates in attendance with writing their individual proposals and bringing additional strategic support to each proposal as the Federations now go to market to close deals on Federation sponsorship, with the added option to join their members physically when presenting their proposal to sponsors.
Additional Media, Marketing, and Sponsorship workshops will be rolled out for Federations, which can be extended to club level with a particular view to ensure local business investment at the club level. The event was kindly supported with donations from the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, The Sport Science Institute, CTC Sports, Infinetix, and ChillBev. CTC Sports kindly donated custom-made raincoats, IT supplier Infinetix provided flash drives and prizes, and ChillBev contributed Bashews cold drinks and their new Score Immune Booster.
Empowering the Federations with these skills is a priority for the WCPSC, and as such, the WCPSC has engaged the Sport Science Institute to deliver education modules on sport, which will see administrators and coaches receive accredited courses and CPD points on completion.
