The Western Cape Equestrian community has much to celebrate after the recent Nations Cup 2024 Mounted Games Team Championship in Taupo, New Zealand. Taking place from 16-18 October 2024, the event saw South African riders delivering exceptional performances on the world stage.
Four talented riders from the Western Cape were selected to represent South Africa, alongside one UK-based South African rider. Their skill and determination were on full display as they competed against top international teams in this fast-paced and highly competitive discipline.
Western Cape Riders Representing South Africa:
– Joshua Menhinick, Captain, West Coast District – WCSJ Club
– Uzel Mouton, Trinity Club, Cape Winelands
– Kaylim Knight-Wallace, Hout Bay Riders Club, Cape Town District
– Daniel Basson, West Coast District – WCSJ Club
– Meg Callow, UK-based South African rider
Under the expert guidance of coach Clare Cole, the South African team put forth a strong performance, with Western Cape riders standing out in various aspects of the competition. Special congratulations go to Joshua Menhinick, who earned the Best Combination (Pony & Rider) Award, a prestigious recognition of the bond and skill displayed by both horse and rider. Representing the West Coast Show Jumping Club, Joshua’s achievement is a proud moment for the Western Cape and the South African Mounted Games Association.
The success of these athletes reflects the dedication and training invested by both riders and their clubs, as well as the support of the equestrian community in the Western Cape. The Nations Cup experience in New Zealand has further established the province’s athletes as world-class competitors in the Mounted Games discipline.
As the South African Mounted Games Association continues to develop and nurture talent, this year’s Nations Cup has provided invaluable experience for the riders and a platform to showcase the strength of South African equestrian sport on the global stage.
