Western Cape Lifesaving Athletes Prepare for World Championship in Australia

Western Cape Lifesaving athletes are gearing up for the upcoming World Championship in Australia later this year. Among the standout competitors is Naor Lombard, a volunteer and competitive lifesaver from the Clifton Lifesaving Club. Naor is one of the Western Cape’s most promising talents, having already made a name for himself in the lifesaving community.

Achievements and Competitions

Naor Lombard’s dedication and talent have led him to numerous successes. He won the Surf Ski World Championship event in 2022 and was honored as the Western Cape Junior Sportsman of the Year. His achievements include a 24km surf-ski race, a 1km beach run, and a 3.5km swim, showcasing his versatility and endurance in lifesaving sports.

Naor will be participating in the World Championships, where over 6000 lifeguards will compete. He will represent the South African National Team and compete in the international club championships. His events include the Iron Man, surf-ski, and board competitions, and he may also participate in the swim event, depending on conditions. The Iron Man is a grueling endurance event that encompasses swimming, running, and surf-skiing, highlighting the core skills of lifesaving.

Federation and Sponsorships

Western Cape Lifesaving is a proud member of the Western Cape Provincial Sport Confederation. This year, the Federation has embraced the opportunity for co-branding the provincial team with sponsors Velocity Trading and PK Accounting. This partnership marks a first for the Western Cape Provincial Sport Confederation, allowing federations to co-brand with their own sponsors for official teams.

Community Contribution and Safety

Western Cape Lifesaving is not only about competition; it plays a vital role in public safety. Lifesaving clubs across the province are active in keeping the public safe on beaches, dams, and rivers. The Federation also actively promotes drowning prevention, emphasizing the importance of water safety and lifesaving skills.

As the athletes prepare for the World Championship, the support from the community and sponsors is invaluable. The dedication of athletes like Naor Lombard and the ongoing efforts of Western Cape Lifesaving contribute significantly to the safety and well-being of the public, while also achieving excellence in competitive lifesaving sports.
