Triumph and Talent Shine at WCSAPD Boccia & Para Athletics Weekend

From 11th to 13th October 2024, the Western Cape Sports Association for People with Disabilities (WCSAPD) hosted the Provincial Boccia Trials and Para Athletics competition. These events brought together athletes with physical disabilities from across the Western Cape, showcasing their skills and determination.

The Boccia Trials took place at Paarl School and Carpe Diem School, with athletes competing in the BC1, BC2, BC3, BC4, and BC5 classifications in individual events. Every participant had a physical disability, and the trials were key in identifying top athletes who will go on to represent the province at higher levels of competition.

Meanwhile, the Para Athletics events were held at Coetzenburg Athletics Stadium in Stellenbosch. Athletes participated in a range of field and track events, with both standing and seated classifications for throwing and running events. The competition, also organized by WCSAPD, aimed to promote inclusivity in sports and give athletes the opportunity to excel.

Rinet Barnard, president of WCSAPD, expressed pride in the athletes’ performances and highlighted the importance of these events in raising awareness and providing competitive opportunities for athletes with disabilities.
