Over 50 young climbers – aged 7 to 14 – recently competed in Western Cape Climbing’s Junior Boulder, Lead and Top Rope Competition. The competition took place over 2 days with the Bouldering discipline taking place at Bloc 11 in Paarden Eiland on 30 November and the Lead and Top Rope disciplines taking place at CityROCK on 1 December. This competition has gone from strength to strength, showcasing the best young climbing talent in the province. Each athlete not only competed for individual honours, they were also competing for a team prize. The competition format allows for inexperienced climbers to learn from those with a lot more experience – and gives everyone a chance to make friends.
The results were as follows:
Boulder Female: 1st – Jessica Fitschen, 2nd – Aline Schliemann and 3rd – Lili Collins
Boulder Male: 1st – Musa Mammon, 2nd – Caden Miles and 3rd – Ethan Bonorchis
Lead Female: 1st – Jessica Fitschen, 2nd – Lili Collins and 3rd – Aline Schliemann
