The South African National Road Time Trial and Road Championships for youth categories, ranging from Under-11 to Under-17, saw Western Cape Cycling deliver a standout performance. The inter-provincial competition, held in Eden for the third time, was a major success for the Western Cape team, which claimed victory with an impressive 403 points. Gauteng finished second with 209 points, followed by Eastern Province with 193 points.
This prestigious event, endorsed by the Western Cape Provincial Sport Confederation and supported by the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, showcased the best young cycling talent in the country. The Western Cape athletes’ dominant performance is a testament to the province’s commitment to developing youth cycling and maintaining high standards across all categories.
As a former Federation of the Year, and under the guidance of Western Cape Cycling President, Mr. Corne Bence, the federation continues to exceed expectations on the national stage. Bence expressed his pride in the athletes and the rising standards of cycling within the province, saying, “I am extremely proud of our athletes and the increase in cycling standards. I would also like to thank our local organising committee and all the volunteers for the work done behind the scenes.”
Western Cape Cycling’s continued success highlights the strength of its programs, its commitment to nurturing young talent, and its ability to remain at the forefront of South African cycling.
