Western Cape Bridge building bridges for Cape Town Youth

In an inspiring move to introduce the strategic game of bridge to children in underrepresented communities, the Western Cape Bridge Federation has recently launched a transformative school program, spearheaded by Duncan Keets, aimed at empowering youth in Bonteheuwel and Bridgetown. This initiative forms part of a larger effort to uplift previously disadvantaged areas across the province.

The program, led by Mo de Groot, sees him coordinating a team of dedicated coaches who visit the schools and teach bridge to students. Sixteen schools in the two suburbs are already involved, with each school having an impressive participation of thirty-two students. This structured approach ensures that children are learning the game under professional guidance, with a focus on building critical thinking, patience, and teamwork.

The event was hosted at the prestigious Western Province Cricket Club, offering the children a unique experience to play bridge in a professional setting. With the success of this first event, the next function is already in the works, as Duncan Keets and his team aim to continue expanding the program with more schools and communities across the province.
