The Western Cape’s cycling community came together in full force this past weekend as the iconic Double Century took place in the Overberg, drawing teams, clubs and riders from across the province for one of the region’s premier endurance events. The race once again delivered a memorable blend of challenging terrain, teamwork and community spirit, securing its status as a major fixture on the Western Cape sporting calendar.

This year’s event was further highlighted by the participation of Western Cape Cycling President Corne Bence, whose presence added strong leadership support to the provincial contingent. His involvement underscored the importance of the Double Century not only as a competitive platform but also as a key opportunity to unite the cycling community across districts.
It was especially encouraging to see cyclists and administrators from the Eden district taking part. Their commitment and growing representation reflect the expanding reach of Western Cape Cycling and the ongoing effort to strengthen participation across the province. Eden’s involvement brought additional energy to an already vibrant field, showcasing the talent and enthusiasm emerging from the region.
Riders faced steep climbs, fast descents and the sweeping Overberg landscapes that define this historic route. Teams worked together with determination, supported by administrators, technical crews and passionate supporters who lined various points of the course.
The Double Century continues to serve as an important platform for connection, collaboration and provincial pride within Western Cape Cycling. With leadership support, strong district participation and rising interest across the region, the sport is set for continued growth in the months ahead.
