Western Cape Archery Athletes Shine for South Africa at WA African Championships

Western Cape Archery is celebrating a major achievement after local athletes represented South Africa with distinction at the WA African Championships held in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, in November 2025. The event brought together top archers from across the continent, and the South African team—featuring strong Western Cape representation—delivered standout performances.

Leading the charge was Western Cape athlete Hugo Rossouw, who secured gold in the Men’s Barebow division. Competing in South African colours, Hugo produced a composed and confident display throughout the tournament, earning him the top spot on the podium and marking another proud moment for both the province and the national team.

The success in Abidjan continues a strong upward trajectory for Western Cape Archery, with provincial athletes consistently contributing to South Africa’s results on the international stage. Their performances reflect the growing depth, technical excellence and competitive spirit within the Western Cape system.

With South African representation strengthened by Western Cape athletes, the province has once again proven its value in high-performance archery. Hugo’s gold medal is a significant highlight, and the Western Cape looks forward to more breakthroughs as preparations for future continental and world events continue.
