The Western Cape Provincial Sport Confederation (WCPSC), in partnership with the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS), continues to expand the impact of the MOD Centre Programme, one of the province’s flagship after-school sport development initiatives.

The programme places hundreds of trained coaches at schools across the Western Cape, creating structured, positive and safe sport environments for children in the afternoons. With more than 700 sport coaches employed through WCPSC, the MOD Centre Programme has become one of the largest community-based sport employment projects in the country.
These coaches play a vital dual role. Not only do they deliver daily coaching, mentorship and life-skills support to learners, but they also help connect schools with nearby clubs—strengthening pathways from participation to organised community sport. This link between school and club sport is helping young athletes take their next step in environments where development, discipline and opportunity work together.
Operating primarily after school, the MOD Centre Programme provides a constructive space for children to stay active, learn new skills and receive support from positive role models. The programme continues to grow each year, with new schools coming on board and additional coaching opportunities emerging across districts.
Through this partnership, WCPSC and DCAS remain committed to building safer, stronger communities through sport while helping develop the next generation of athletes, coaches and leaders in the Western Cape.
