Rowers Make Waves at Inaugural Cape Peninsula Champs Regatta
This past weekend, the Cape Peninsula Champs Regatta made its debut at the picturesque Zeekoevlei Nature Conservancy. Held from 12-13 October 2024, the event drew around 200 athletes from 7 clubs and 3 universities, all eager to kick off the early rowing season in the scenic Cape.

The regatta followed a two-day format, with heats taking place on Saturday and final races on Sunday. A points system across various boat classes determined the overall winners. Rondebosch Rowing Club claimed victory in the boys’ competition, with St Andrews College of Grahamstown finishing second. In the girls’ events, Somerset College topped the leaderboard, followed by the Peninsula Girls Rowing Club in second place.

The Western Cape Rowing Association (WCRA), in collaboration with the City of Cape Town, worked tirelessly in the lead-up to the event to ensure an enjoyable regatta for all participants.
