WCPSC launches new logo

After a protracted period following the guidelines on demarcation as per Sport and Recreation South Africa The Western Cape Provincial Sports Confederation recently unveiled their new logo to members of the Confederation.

The new logo now includes all six municipal districts within the province of the Western Cape. These are Cape Town Metro, Cape Winelands, Eden, Central Karoo, Overberg and the West Coast.
Chairperson of the WCPSC Colors Commission Dave van der Walt acknowledged the need for the new logo. “What you see before you is the result of lengthy negotiations and maximum participation from all the role players.” he said.

As a whole, the logo was designed to incorporate a single unified sporting unit, to be easy recognizable and a logo that appeals to all generations and cultures.

“The logo represents movement, transformation, and unity,” van der Walt said. The Shield represents the safeguarding of all sporting codes.

Table Mountain, one of the new seven wonders of the world, is the most iconic landmark of the Western Cape Province and immediately identifies the logo as referencing the Western Cape in South Africa.

The Circle of Six, originating from the six districts is a stylized vector of sport figurines representing vibrant diversity, principles of equal opportunity, non racialism and non-sexism among sportsmen and sportswomen.

Green represents the Eden District; Powder Blue is for the West Coast; Royal Blue symbolizes the Cape Metro; Black signifies the Cape Winelands; Red is for the Overberg region; whilst The Karoo is represented with a classic Green figurine.

The blue color of the shield and ribbon is the core blue color of the Western Cape Province and the Provincial Sport Confederation.

The Acting President of the Western Cape Sport Confederation acknowledged the time and effort it took to deliver the logo. “We now have a logo which truly represents and embodies the Western Cape Province. Our former President the late Mr. Goliath Munro would have been proud to see our athletes competing in their new colours. I must commend Mr. van Der Walt on his commitment to see this process through.” Naude said.
