WCPSC Exco profile on Rudolph Johannes
Rudolph Johannes has been involved in sport for over 25 years. He has competed in full-contact Karate competitions but is best known for his stellar work as Chairman of the DISWEC (Disability Sports Western Cape) as well as Chairman of the Overberg Sports Council. He was named Administrator of the Year at the WCPSC Awards in 2014.
Rudolph is currently the President of the Agulhas School of Skills, a school for the mildly intellectually impaired. He has a great passion for working with people with disabilities and has achieved fantastic success as Chairman of the DISWEC Commission.

“DISWEC is an associate member of the WCPSC which offers sport for the Intellectually Impaired, Dead, and Physically Impaired athletes,” he said.

“We are immensely proud of our athletes’ achievements. Last month our athletes traveled to Italy and brought back 55 medals. Last year our National Football Team came 2nd at the World Disability Cup in Brazil. We will continue to work to raise awareness for Disability Sport and liaising with mainstream sport to integrate the two.”

As Chairman of the Overberg Sports Council, Rudolph has had to work hard to balance both roles.

“The Overberg Sports Council was established in 2013. Our mandate is to establish Sports Federations. We currently have 13 established with three more in the pipeline, namely Bowls, Pool, and Sailing.”

“We will continue to strive for continued growth in our District. We want all our Federations to be aware of the SASCOC mandate and following the correct procedures.”

Rudolph enjoys running and hiking in the beautiful Overberg Mountains in his spare time.
